Out of the mouths of babes…

Dear Mr. Bin Laden:

My name is Lauren. I am nine years old, and I am an American. I am writing this letter and posting it on the world wide web with the hope that it will reach you.

Today is Saturday, September 15, and it is now 8 p.m. I am sitting here in my room crying, trying to understand why you may have done such a terrible thing. I look out my window this evening and can no longer see, nor will I ever see again, the Twin Towers in all their splendor and architectural glory, glistening on the moonlit Hudson. Instead I look out my window and see a grim cloud of smoke hovering where the towers once stood. Tell me Mr. Bin Ladin, does it make you happy knowing that you allegedly destroyed one of our nation’s most beautiful landmarks? Are you and your people rejoicing when you watch the videotapes of the mighty towers crumbling to the ground? Well Mr.Bin Laden, let me tell you how I see it.

Congratulations, you allegedly destroyed two buildings, but that’s all they were, two buidings! We built them, and if we choose to, we can build them again! What we can’t bring back are the thousands of innocent lives that perished with your thoughtless act of mistaken heroic obsession. I am a Christian, Mr. Bin Laden, a Roman Catholic, and my God values human life. I cannot believe that the God of Islam allows you to so selfishly destroy so many innocent lives in his name. I look at your picture onTV, and to me you look like the people from biblical times, but I guess you are not what you seem to be. The people who suffered from your mindless attack were not your enemies, they were only workers whose only crime was getting to work on time that morning.

For you see, you may have thought that on September 11, you were detroying America, but in fact, you made us stronger. More than ever, we are now firmly united in defeating terrorists. Perhaps you should rethink your position in life, and instead of seeking vengeance against innocent people, you should donate your wealth to your country so that your people can build better roads, buildings and a better life for themsleves.

I know you’re proud of what you think you have done but remember that some day you will be standing before the God of Islam or perhaps my God. How then will you justify ending the lives of so many people, innocent people, whose spirit will never forget the injustice you put upon them.

On September 11 many moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandmas and grandpas never made it home to their loving families. But remember Mr. Bin Laden, my God and my Bible tell me, ” An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” So sleep well.

A Proud American.

Lauren
