What are ‘Friends’ for?

Dear Editor:

Of late I am so sick and tired of all this pessimism about the waterfront. These people are Friends of the Waterfront. Friends to what? Ducks and fish, water, walkways and skylines?

Where were all these caring, criticising people when tenants were flooded or burned out of their homes, when they needed food and clothes and a roof over their heads and when there are voluinteers needed for whatever jobs need to be done? When senior citizens can’t get their shopping done or get to a doctor? When street children need a friend or at the very least, a little guidance?

Where were they when I spent five years of my life in my apartment and could have used a "friend" to help shop, etc. I don’t know where they were, but our help came from our Mayors and Township Councils, both past and present. So maybe these "Friends" should start worrying more about their neighbors instead of constantly complaining about sidewalks!

There is more to life than concrete.
