Proper equipment NHCAC accepts donation from JC waterfront corporation

North Hudson Community Action Corporation received their first donation from one of the Jersey City waterfront corporations this month. Knight Trading Group of Jersey City, the leading market marker in equity securities listed on Nasdaq, donated $10,000 towards a new children’s corner in the waiting room of NHCAC’s Jersey City location. They also donated other needed equipment for the site.

The non-profit NHCAC provides quality health care to low-income families, with or without insurance, living in West New York, Union City, Weehawken, North Bergen Guttenberg, Jersey City and Secaucus.

Knight Trading Group was the first company from Jersey’s waterfront area to donate to the corporation, and their founders said that other companies should be following in their footsteps.

Michael Leggiero, the president and CEO of the NCAC, was pleased with the donation. “The children’s area and equipment will be of great use at the Jersey City site,” he said at the dedication ceremony of the children’s corner held on Tuesday, July 10. “Because of the high standards of service provided by North Hudson Community Action Corporation and the burgeoning needs of the community, the center is always filled with families seeking quality health care.”

The Jersey City site, located at 324 Palisade Ave., serves more than 300 patients a week.

“The Jersey City health center meets important health care needs in the area, and Knight is pleased that it can assist its neighbors through its work with NHCAC,” said Executive Vice President of Knight Walter Raquet. “We want Jersey City to be a pleasant place to both work and live, and partnerships like the one between Knight and NHCAC are vital to realizing this goal.”

“We needed a reputable company like Knight Trading Group to contribute,” said Leggiero. “That is what you need to get the ball rolling.”

Registered Nurse Maria Llorente composed a list of equipment that the corporation’s Jersey City Center needed, to present to Knight Trading Group.

Along with the children’s waiting area, the money donated by Knight Trading Group was used to purchase important pediatric obstetric medical equipment. This equipment included a Diabetic Blood Testing Unit, an Allergy Electronic Timing Device, a Digital Pulse Oximeter, a Dry Heat Sterilizing Unit, a Digital Thermometer, a Colposcopy machine to look for abnormal cells in the cervical area, and other instruments. “We give a lot of money away,” said Raquet. “That is just the nature of our company. Personally I love to give to [organizations] that involve children. This is one of the charities that we will definitely give an annual donation to.”

Leggiero said that encouraging more corporations to donate could only better the quality of the treatment NHCAC can provide.

“What ever we can do, we can always do more,” said Leggiero.
