Kleon celebrates 48th year One of the oldest furniture stores in New Jersey marks anniversary

Kleon Furniture Store, which originally opened in Hoboken for 36 years before moving to its Union City location at 1701 Summit Ave. 12 years ago, prides itself on selling high quality merchandise at low prices.

After celebrating the business’s 48th Anniversary in May, Leon Klein, the owner of Kleon Furniture, has seen many changes in the furniture trends.

“It seems to be going full-circle now,” said Klein. Klein said that when he started in the business, furniture was more formal and ornate, then changed to more contemporary and casual before getting back to the formal pieces.

“What happened is that people are spending more time in their homes than they did in previous years,” said Klein, who credits computers and television sets as reasons that people are staying home.

In fact, the excellent service, long warranties and low prices – the company’s three golden rules – are about the only thing that has remained the same since the business opened.

“If any customer is unhappy with their purchase, we will take it back and exchange it for something else,” said Klein.

Kleon will also match the price of any item that is found for less money in another location, and offers a five-year warranty on bedroom sets.

“If you have a problem with your furniture, we’ll take care of it,” said Klein, adding that most other furniture stores only offer a 30-day or one-year warranty on their merchandise.

At Kleon, the employees will take the time to listen to your needs and solve any decorating problems you may have.

“We want your lifetime business,” said Klein. “We want you tell your friends and relatives about our store. We do business the old-fashioned way.”
