Dear Editor:
Congratulations to Leonard Luizzi on his appointment as Hoboken Historian. A deserving honor to a true Hobokenite and one of our most dedicated citizens.
Researching, collating, displaying and articulating historical data certainly has its merits. It is most acceptable for ancient history, but it does not suffice Hoboken’s current need to record all the facts of its’ transformation. It is simply not enough.
Only an old-time resident such as Leonard Luizzi, who has been physically present and who has witnessed and experienced first hand the trauma, miseries, sufferings and triumphs that afflicted Hoboken as it progressed through its various stages of gentrifications, these qualifications alone over-ride all other considerations.
To have personally been there and then to be able to document, recount and impart, without distortion or embellishment, not only the historical facts about Hoboken but also the emotional turbulence of its citizenry during the anguish of the environmental surgery that took place in Hoboken — that is history “In Toto.”
Luizzi brings all the above qualifications to his appointment.
In addition to his knowledge of our town, Luizzi’s energetic diligence and commitment will prove to be valuable assets in the execution of his role as guardian of our beloved city.
Hoboken is sure to benefit from the many forthcoming educational events which will transpire under the sanction and tutelage of our newly appointed historian.
