Dear Editor:
The latest cop-out and atrocity is blaming Arafat for the violence in the Middle East. The last word from our great western diplomats was that Arafat was the only one who could put a stop to the terrorism and he wasn’t doing too much to help. What dribble.
Leaders can only rule generally. To stop every specific misdeed, they would have to put a cop on every individual and a cop on every cop, ad nauseam.
We couldn’t stop the Oklahoma bombing, the shoot out in the hall of the Senate building in Washington, D.C., the machine-gunning maniac on the New York City subway, the bombing of the Twin Towers in downtown Manhattan, the etc., etc., etc. all over our country. Is our cloth so clean that we can expect poor anxiety-ridden Arafat to do what is impossible anywhere. I see it as Democracy, at its best, “looking for somebody to blame.” Not in ourselves. We need another scapegoat. Viva Democracy.

P.S. Israel is a western culture jammed down the throats of an eastern philosophic society. It is a tinder box and will always remain so. The Arab countries will always have radicals such as we also produce, who will look at Israel as a cancer. In reality, many scientists really believe that surgery or removal is the only cure for a malignant tumor or cancer. Thus, terrorists! I know a new one will be born every day to replace those that fail. A million Arafats won’t cure that.
