Dear Editor:
“Yes, I did it and I don’t mind paying the fine but I don’t want the points.”
I’ve heard that remark often from the drivers who committed moving violations and were ticketed. Apparently, the NJ Division of Motor Vehicles heard the cries too, and changes have been proposed.
Under the proposal motorists will not receive any points on their licenses for a first or second moving violation but would be assessed four points for third or subsequent offenses within a five year period.
Anyone can comment on this proposal until June 6 by writing Albert B. Ari, Acting Director, Motor Vehicle Services, Attention: Legal Staff, 225 E. State Street, PO Box 162, Trenton, NJ 08666-0162. I urge everyone in Hudson County to think carefully about this proposal and let us know your thoughts.
