Decide based on our records

Dear Editor:

As Mayor of our wonderful community, I’d like to take this opportunity to communicate with you one last time before the May 8th Mayoral Election.

I am very honored to serve as your mayor. For me, this is not a job but rather a privilege. I fervently believe that it is my duty to protect and improve the lives of all our residents. This is a very difficult task because just as Hoboken is a diverse community, so too is the diversity of needs, desires and wishes that are expressed to me on a daily basis.

Hoboken has come a long way in the past eight years. We have grown from a government near financial ruin to one of professionalism and efficiency. We have shed ourselves of a cumbersome bureaucracy and are now able to adapt to constituent needs promptly. At the same time we have expanded city services and improved our quality of life tremendously. We are a safer community with cleaner streets, new parks and recreational facilities. Hoboken is truly New Jersey’s comeback city.

I am the first one to admit that inconveniences come with improvements, but we have to look at the end product. Just as a mother goes through the stress, discomfort and pain of childbearing, so do the residents of a city that is rebuilding. But, in the end we all enjoy the birth of a new baby or in our case the re-birth of a city. So, as you go to the polls on Tuesday, don’t get caught up in the short-term inconveniences of construction noise or traffic. Please remember that it is only temporary.

My campaign has shown our initiatives, accomplishments and vision for the future. My opponents have only complained and offered no concrete plans or abilities to deal with the demands of running our city. Even Councilman Roberts’ own literature fails to list any accomplishments in his 16 years on the City Council. His campaign positions are without substance and lacking in concrete economic value.

Please compare our records and then decide who to vote for based on which candidate has demonstrated the ability to be the Mayor and lead Hoboken into the future. Thank you.

Mayor Anthony Russo
