Unfinished parking garage warrants an explanation from administration

Dear Editor:

Does anyone remember the last time it was announced that Hoboken would be home to something unique? If you don’t recollect, have a look at 916 Garden Street. That’s the spot where the Girl Scouts’ house was torn down to build the first automated parking garage in North America. The parking garage was financed by bond monies (thank you homeowners) and under the oversight of the Hoboken Parking Authority (thank you Michelle Russo).

To date, the garage has never been completed; it just sits unfinished, some kind of testament to an Administration that doesn’t even feel obligated to offer an explanation and an accounting to the taxpayers and to the citizens who have no place to park their cars.

Yet, with this experience behind them, what do you suppose the Administration would do at the next opportunity to design and build something unique in Hoboken. Do you think they’d proceed with caution and restraint before using us as guinea pigs again, or do you suppose they’d make a splashy announcement promising floating swimming pools?
