Empty building should be torn down before disaster occurs

Dear Editor;

The reason I am writing is I am concerned about this empty building on 32nd Street, the correct address is 3201 Central Avenue, where the nuns used to be housed many years ago. Then Mt. Carmel Guild Mental Health Center was housed there for a long time. Then they had to find a new place to have their day program for the mentally ill patients. I think they are now at 2201 Bergenline Avenue.

But anyway getting back to the eyesore on 32nd Street, the fence is broken and some of the windows are broken. I wrote to Mayor Stack about my concerns about leaving it empty for a long time.

Now with all of these cold months and the shelters being full, where would a homeless person go to find shelter; of course, the old Mt. Carmel Guild at 3201 Central Avenue. The reason they moved was that it was condemned. The town of Union City should knock it down and make a shoppers parking lot or more parking for the Park Theater. But do something with that old building. Don’t let it wind up like the old Roy Rogers that sat empty on 48th Street for many years where they had fires and they found a dead homeless person inside.

Please with the help of God tear it down.
