Over the past week, Hudson residents found out that one of their neighbors, Mitchell Olson of Union City, was one of the 16 members cast on the reality television show Survivor. Whether Olson was able to survive the vast arid lands, massive waterfalls and rivers, and fierce crocodiles of the Australian Outback for a month is yet to be seen, but the Hudson Reporter talked to a few Union City and West New York residents to find out if they think they have what it takes to be on the popular show. Here’s what they said.
Lidia Flores, 19, West New York
“I wouldn’t go on the show, because I don’t have to do that to survive. It’s hard enough to survive here than it is to survive on island.”
Dennis Suero, 16, Union City
“I would do it to test it and see what’s up. But if I went, I’d take a cow with me and roast that. I think it would be fun.”
Chris Vasquez, 17, Union City
“I might do it, but I’m not used to living without food and stuff. I wouldn’t eat any bugs or anything though; I think I would stay starving. I wouldn’t eat insects, but I think that if I got hungry enough, I would eat about anything else.”
Marian Analco, 19, West New York
“I would go, because it’s something different. I like to do things you wouldn’t get to do, and it seems like it would be interesting. But I’m the kind of person who’s eating all the time, so I don’t think I would be able to be the survivor. I also don’t like staying in one place for too long.”
