WNY public school employees spread holiday cheer

Dear Editor:

Temperatures dropped below freezing on December 18 in the Hudson County community of West New York, but there was plenty of warmth in town provided by the First Annual Holiday Carol Walk by West New York’s public school teachers and educational support personnel.

Members of the West New York Education Association strolled through the community singing traditional Christmas and holiday songs to the happy throngs of shoppers out for the evening. A special touch was provided by the carolers as they visited the community’s senior citizen housing complexes singing for the residents and giving them holiday ornaments made by the public school employees.

It made the season even more joyous for all of us to be able to sing to our friends and neighbors in senior citizen housing. The community has been so supportive of our public schools, and we wanted to return some of that support. The expressions of delight on their faces warmed each of us and reinforced the true spirit of the holiday season.

The West New York Education Association hopes to make this celebration of the holidays an annual event and sends their heartfelt thanks to Jalopeno’s Restaurant for providing sandwiches and soft drinks for the carolers under the sponsorship of the West New York Chamber of Commerce, Michael Parks, President.
