Dear Editor:
I would like to suggest that Mayor Anthony Russo take a drive down Grand Street beginning at 13th. In doing so, he will discover first-hand that the intersections at 12th and 11th Streets are void of stop signs in any direction.
After my own near-miss collision at 11th and Grand, I assumed that the lack of stop signs in either direction was siimply an innocent, albeit dangerous, oversight by the town. In the last month, however, I have twice called Hoboken officials to report the problem. Given that these calls have been completely ignored and absolutely nothing has been done to remedy the situation, I now can only assume that this blatant threat to the safety of Hoboken residents is nothing short of gross negligence.
I cannot begin to imagine why anyone would knowingly endanger area drivers (and pedestrians for that matter) by refusing to install proper road signs in what has become a very populous section of town. How much time and money can it possibly take to hammer a few signs into the ground?
It is just a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt or even killed at one of these intersections. Perhaps then, our town officials will choose to act on their most fundamental reason for existence — to protect the people who live in and visit Hoboken.
Until then, we’re apparently on our own.
A very concerned Hoboken resident
