Dear Editor:
Recall of public officials from office by a vote of the people upon petition is un-American. Although a legal instrument, it destroys the will of the people who voted for the official being recalled. Once the awesome process of recall begins rolling, many who originally voted may have moved, died or have become so disenchanted, that they feel it is futile. Moreover, recall can be likened to a lynching mob. A group of voters can be worked up into a frenzy to throw out an elected official just like a lynch mob can be coerced into committing murder at the prodding of the mob rules. They both have the same motive, to destroy rapidly and furiously.
If Brian Stack has such an insatiable hunger for power, why does he not wait for a duly scheduled election and take his chances at the polls?
Let me hasten to add that this recall movement to unseat Garcia is not spearheaded by Brian Stack. He lacks the fortitude and intelligence to have thought this up himself. The real author of the Machiavellian and immoral gimmick is Robert Menendez. To him political expediency was always above morality. Menendez has learned a craft which he uses with ease to destroy democratic institutions and blossoming political careers.
Dysgenic disasters like Menendez, lacking conscience, altruism and civility, live their lives like hungry beasts looking for their victims.
He has found one in Brian Stack! Having hand-picked Garcia for Union City Mayor, he soon came to rue the day he did so for Garcia became his own high-principled man and alienated and banished Menendez from Union City politics. While at the same time, or shortly thereafter, Garcia and Stack forged a partnership that was destined to work had not Menendez persuaded Stack that if he wanted to rise in politics, it would be to his benefit to abandon Garcia and embrace Menendez.
Menendez has risen to certain heights in the Washington, D.C. maelstrom through his ruthless use of power and divide and conquer methods. He first began by destroying a good and noble man, William V. Musto, former Mayor of Union City and New Jersey State Senator. He ate at his table, learned law and politics from him and was loved like son by both Bill and Rhyta Musto. While learning, eating and availing himself of their love and intellect and while ingratiating himself with the Mustos, he was surreptitiously formulating a plan calculated to utterly destroy William V. Musto. Having done just that, he proceeded to supplant himself in the hearts and minds of the voters. Once Bill Musto was safely tucked away, Menendez began inching himself up the political pole remorselessly savoring the joy of the climb. Not a small feat for a man of his girth!
Yet, his climb has been a short one. He can move up no further in Congress. In Congress, the hallmark of his lackluster legislative career has been to continue to starve the people of Cuba by opposing the lifting of trade sanctions that would allow normal trade with Cuba, and by relegating the noble Cuban people to even more hunger and destitution and by pushing the gentle people of Cuba farther and farther away from democratic institutions.
For a man whose parents and siblings are Cuban-born, it would seem somewhat frivolous and enigmatic to take such measures against his own people. Is he, perhaps a self-hating Cuban.
Brian, I have always liked you. At one time or another we have talked about politics, alcoholism, literature, history and Jewish History in particular and many other things. Now we have nothing to say to one another.
I know you, Brian! And you’re no William V. Musto! You are fast becoming another Robert Menendez.
You were once pleasant, innocent, truthful and loyal. Now you have become flashy, tawdry and gaudy, all show and an opportunist.
I hope that the people of Union City will not be taken in by you and that little guttersnipe of a congressman and I beseech the people of Union City, vote No for the recall of Garcia.
