Don’t let our waterfront be taken away from us

Dear Editor:

I wish to commend Councilmen Ramos, Roberts and Soares on their public opposition to the rash of pier development currently proposed in Hoboken. It is extremely comforting to know that certain city officials publicly recognize the importance of the waterfront in the lives of the people of Hoboken.

The Applied Companies’ 120 unit residential North Pier development project threatens to steal from the public one of Hoboken’s most valuable resources. The Hoboken waterfront is a spectacular public attraction which can be enjoyed to its fullest only if the views are unobstructed by pier development and the public walkway is not subject to automobile traffic, as is called for in the proposal. The shear splendor of the waterfront is an asset of the city and should be enjoyed by the public for generations to come. If this project comes to pass, the Hoboken waterfront will be detrimentally changed forever.
