Follow my lead for the good of UC taxpayers

Dear Editor:

In lieu of the recent tax increases Union City is experiencing, I have decided not to accept the $5,000 stipend, which accompanies my appointment to the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Management Board.

Far too long, Union City has experienced financial hardship as a result of people who maintain two or three city jobs at a time. Although I am not rich and have a need for the stipend, I feel it is more important to recognize and do everything possible to alleviate the current burden the taxpayer in Union City endures. I only hope that those individuals who have abused our city finances by maintaining several positions will follow my lead.

As for my appointment to the Rent Leveling Board and the North Hudson Communication Board, both positions are strictly voluntary. And while I will not be receiving a stipend for any of the above-mentioned appointments, I will work diligently to assure that the residents of Union City are not only represented the day of the meetings but also before and after the meetings.
