The Kennedy Dancers Repertory Company just can’t get over National Dance Week, which closed out April. They’ll continue the fun with a series of dance performances on May 4, 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. The performances, which will include a danced poem and a mixed media choreography that tells the story of an army camp in Caven Point, Jersey City, will be held at the Washington Square Performance Center, 135 West 4th St., Manhattan. The Hoboken dance troupe Donna Goffrado and Dancers will perform their newest piece entitled “Nina” with the Uptown Performance Series at The Bridge (2726 Broadway at 109th Street, third floor, Manhattan) on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10. New Photography, a show at the Gallery Space at Grace Church Van Vorst (39 Erie St., Jersey City, 659-2211) introduces the work of Carlos E. Baz, David Carper, Misun Kim and Phil Straus. A reception for the artists will take place on May 5 from 7 to 9 p.m., with original music from Useless Records. There will also be a modern dance performance by Elise Knudson and Bianca Falco.
Free art for kids: the Art Workshops Festival will be held on May 6 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, One Canal St., Jersey City. The workshop, for children and teens ages 5 to 17, will feature human head sculpture, martial arts and poetry as well as lots of other art and performance classes. Michael Boyle, noted speaker on past lives and reincarnation, will explore the concept of reincarnation as a philosophy of life, how karma operates in our lives and how past lives and relationships affect our present life experiences. Boyle has a Master’s degree in English literature as well as one in counseling, and has lectured extensively on the subject of reincarnation. The work of Hoboken resident Colleen Williams will be displayed at the Westfield Hadassah Fine Art and Crafts show at Temple Emanu-El, 756 East Broad Street, Westfield.
