Dear Editor: Parents and taxpayers, I am a candidate running for the April 18, 2000 School Board election, and I would like to tell you a little about myself. My name is Wanda Santana Alicea. I am married and have two boys, ages one and four. I’m a graduate of Rutgers University where I obtained a BSW in social work. I am presently pursuing an MA at New Jersey City University in counseling. I have over 10 years of experience as an administrator in the health field. I am presently the Executive Director of the Union City Daycare and Learning Center, where I oversee 600 children and manage over 170 employees. My administrative acumen and work with children’s development and education have afforded me the experience and ability to move our school district forward. We should explore additional grants for Abbot funding, after school programs and equipment as well as expand existing programs. I would also like to see the schools reach out to the community for more parental involvement and to provide workshops regarding their children’s education. I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope you will afford me the opportunity to truly bring innovative ideas to education and further improve our schools.
