Dear Editor: The Gun When I was made it was for war and protection Not kill for the hell of it because of rejection Man took me for evil which caused hurt and mayhem Evil minds used me to bring forth their evil whim I’ve been in wars and gave protection to our guys I couldn’t help them all for some had to die I wasn’t made to harm, I was made to warn and protect Evil minds got into the act, these we have to reject When you cock my hammer at an innocent person for evil Killing them or not brings into their life upheaval I cannot kill by myself, it takes man to pull the trigger Why you want to take someone’s life is something I can’t figure Please don’t use me for evil, I feel alone and in rejection Putting locks on me is good for children’s protection Some in madness use me, the gun, for their evil doings Knowing that what they do is wrong and heartache is brewing Using me for evil gave me a bad and terrible name When all I wanted was to keep harm and evil out of the game I, the gun, ask you to use me with safety and respect Never for evil toward others, use restraint and its effect Georgia McLane R.A.
