Dear Editor: “All Or Nothing At All” was Frank Sinatra’s first hit in 1940 with Tommy Dorsey. My goal always was a museum in Hoboken worthy of Mr. Sinatra for the city to build on the culture of our town and to preserve a way of life. Mr. Crimmins, Business Administrator and Planning Board lawyer Mr. Carbone informed me in writing that my “so called museum” would be endangering public safety. I could sell bubble gum, soda, shirts, etc. but a museum or shrine was out of the question. Joel Mestre, zoning officer, told me via phone that he would fine me $1,000 a day. Additional offenses could result in a 30-day jail sentence. Because of Messrs. Crimmins, Carbone, Mestre and Mayor Russo, I have decided to seek a variance for From Here To Eternity — the people’s museum in honor of Mr. Sinatra. I have received personal items, letters, encouragement from people throughout the world to his birthplace. I believe I have done something honorable and good. The “Our Way” Foundation is a non-profit organization If it ever becomes profitable I have declared that I would be giving net proceeds to charity which is specifically spelled out in my charter listed at The Jersey City Municipal Building. I have written Mr. Mestre, zoning officer, that I will seek a variance for From Here To Eternity. I also wrote a play and the music entitled “Welcome Home Francis” that I cannot perform because of zoning. I ran for mayor because of the over regulation of codes and stated many times: “Bring Back Common Sense to Government.” I must go forward in what I believe. From Here To Eternity is Mr. Sinatra’s nativity and Sistine Chapel. We have already have over 2000 letters from people visiting the shrine. I forgot. I am not allowed to call it a shrine. It is not in the code book as pointed out by Mr. Crimmins. The important issue is that if the people call it a museum or a shrine, you can’t persecute them for having the courage to speak their own thoughts. I would like to hear from you by letter. I have invested $20,000 in From Here To Eternity. Each month costs me $1,200. I believe the project can be profitable for all whether it be nostalgically, historically, musically or monetarily. “From Here To Eternity” is a people’s museum honoring the greatest singer whoever lived. All or nothing at all. Ed Shirak
