Train museum fell on deaf ears

Dear Editor: The Great Train Race (1/30/2000) is 20 years too late. Myself and others have tried to bring a train museum to Liberty State Park for years. The biggest blunder Jersey City made was when Steamtown in Vermont closed and the politicians in Jersey had the opportunity to move the historic train collection to Jersey City at Liberty State Park. It eventually moved to Scranton, PA, and the state of Pennsylvania has created a beautiful collection of railroad memorabilia. The problem with Jersey City is no one listens until it is too late. Years ago I wrote letters on the train museum and the Battleship New Jersey to the local papers looking for support and unfortunately; no one listened then, and now it is too late for the battleship and 20 years too late for a train museum. We also don’t need to spend money on surveys; the train experts are right here in Jersey City. Richard Boggiano A railroad buff since 1949
