Dear Editor: I wondered how long it would take the “11 story” apartment complex on the waterfront between Third and Fourth streets to start growing. In a recent edition of the paper I read that it will be a “13 story” complex. How much longer until it becomes 20 stories, than 30 stories? It was too much to hope that the boundless greed permeating our new development and the predictable behind-the-scene agreements might be held at reasonable limits. I will do everything I can in the next election to get some representatives in city government who will honor their commitments over their ambition. Why don’t we just change the name of Hoboken to Barryville and get it over with? Name withheld Editor’s Note: In order for the plans for the South Waterfront Redevelopment Project to have been changed, they would have had to have gone before the Planning Board and City Council. Since no such thing happened, we called City Hall for an explanation. Director of Human Services Robert Drasheff, who oversees development, said that the size of the building has not, in fact, increased. It will still be 125 feet high, as in the original proposal, and no more. There will also still be 11 stories of residential. There are also, however, two stories on the bottom: one of retail, and one for parking. Building laws state that levels of residential buildings can be at minimum, 8 or 9 feet. So the developer can build 13 stories as long as he does not go over 125 feet.
