Dear Editor: For some reason Councilman Stephen Hudock has decided that lifting rent control only to owner occupied two family homes will be fair and just. Well Stephen what about the owners of three family homes or four family homes? Are their rights to earn higher rents any different? Attaching this two family loophole to a very well intentioned amendment meant to protect residents in buildings like Clock Towers is dumb. Our rent control laws are designed to treat every landlord equally, because they all deserve equal protection under the law. Either Stephen Hudock is attempting to do away with rent control by allowing an avenue for a legal challenge or he didn=t think this through entirely. The question of economic subsidies in a free market has been debated since Adam Smith in 1760. Noble Prize winning economists, world leaders and CEOs of the world’s largest corporations can’t solve the question of how subsidies should work in a capitalist society. The only answer they agree upon is that they must be applied equally or not at all. Why in the world does Stephen Hudock think that he is experienced enough or intelligent enough to take on this question, is beyond me. I urge everyone to contact Mr. Hudock and voice their opinions on this matter and for Mr. Hudock to defend his position in this letters column next week. John Branciforte P.S.
