Handsome hats; leopard prints, faux fur and more

Thanks to the recent bout of wicked winter weather, illustrious anchorpeople can finally flaunt their alliterative acumen by saying things like, “Wicked winter weather on the way.” The calamitous cold also offers normal people the opportunity to sport their latest winter accessories, specifically, hats. According to local merchants, this winter anything goes. So when the blizzard hits, throw caution – and your simple taste – to the wind and don a wacky winter hat. Always hip to latest trend, Peper, at 1030 Washington St. in Hoboken, is selling faux fur leopard print cowboy hats by Hat Attack. The western-style chapeau goes for approximately $80. Those apprehensive about making such a big investment should visit Limbo Lounge at the Newport Centre Mall. The trendy shop is also selling leopard print cowboy hats at the more moderate price of $42. If you’re looking for a simpler western style hat, check out Air Studios on First Street in Hoboken. The boutique is selling more traditional cowboy hats. “Cowboy hats have been popular since last season,” said Desiree Pesce, the boutique’s owner. “I’ve also sold a lot of fur hats this year.” According to Pesce, Bond girl style fur hats are particularly popular. “But anybody who is going to wear those hats has to have a pretty funky style.” For anti-fur activists, Air Studios also features faux fur hats. The more traditional-minded should visit Down to Earth, 527 Washington St. in Hoboken. For only $29, the boutique features wool beanies by Blue Marlin. Finally, there’s the always-elegant baseball cap. Down to Earth sells Blue Marlin baseball caps, but if you’re looking for the real deal, check out Nothing But Lids in the Newport Centre Mall. With hundreds of hats to chose from, there’s something for everyone.
