To the Editor:
I wish to express my sincere thanks to all members of the community for their generosity in supporting the HIGHWAYS annual Thanksgiving food drive. Because of their support, we were able to provide Thanksgiving dinners for 228 families.
Special thanks go to the following people and organizations for collecting and donating food: Matt Weinock and the Boys Club at Mount Carmel; the Peninsula City Soccer Club; U9 Boys Club and U/2 Girls Club; Troop 27 (Scouting for Food campaign); and Father Paul Gulya of Jersey City. Thanks also to the students and staff of Bayonne’s grammar schools. Their campaign collected several hundred pounds of food that were delivered to our food bank by the city of Bayonne.
As part of Cookie’s Thanksgiving Food Drive, many Bayonne residents also made donations. UNICO provided 50 turkeys in Cookie’s honor. Other donors included the Bayonne Chamber of Commerce; Erika Daughtry; and Lisa Protolo-Burke, who presented us with a generous cash donation on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Hudson County Bar Association.
To all of these people and organizations and the individual citizens of Bayonne who supported this effort, I offer the heartfelt thanks of myself, the HIGHWAYS staff and the clients of our social services programs. May you be blessed this holiday season for the help you provided to our community.
