Man charged with murder of his mother and grandmother

JERSEY CITY — Kevin Hodges, 36, of Jersey City was apprehended by Jersey City Police officers on Dec. 5 and charged with the alleged murder of his mother and his grandmother. Jersey City police officers responded to a housing project at 305 Randolph Ave. at about 8:25 p.m. on the report that a woman was in distress. Neighbors reported hearing shouting. Upon arrival, Jersey City Police officers used the fire escape to enter an apartment where they found two unresponsive female victims who had both sustained multiple stab wounds. The victims were later identified as Rebecca Hodges, age 56, and Dorothy Bradshaw, age 76. The victims both lived at 305 Randolph and have been identified as mother and daughter. They were transported by emergency medical services to Jersey City Medical Center where they were pronounced dead at approximately 9:10 p.m. The Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of each of their deaths. Kevin Hodges was apprehended by Jersey City police officers approximately one block from the scene. He was arrested and charged with two counts of Murder , two counts of Possession of Three Sharp-Edged-Weapons for an Unlawful Purpose and two counts of Unlawful Possession of Three Sharp-Edged-Weapons . Hodges has been identified as the son of Rebecca Hodges. His initial bail was set at $4 million cash only. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s office said no other suspects are being sought at this time however the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
