The Harlow, a large apartment building at the corner of Fourteenth Street and Willow Avenue, officially opened its doors Nov. 30 with a ribbon cutting by state, county, and local officials. The building is starting to rent out its 140 apartments (some for over $5,000 per month) and also has space for a Trader Joe’s grocery store that will open in February.
The building, approved in 2011 by the Zoning Board of Adjustments, is the most recent addition to the former industrial area of town.
“I remember walking back here and kicking rocks,” said State Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro. “There was nothing back here.”
Over the past few years, the northwestern part of town has seen its fair share of construction, including Hudson County renovating the Fourteenth Street Viaduct area and adding a basketball court, soccer pitches, a dog park, and a soon-to-be seasonal ice rink. The rink will be provided by Advanced Realty, the developers of the Harlow.

“The northwest corner of Hoboken has become a thriving neighborhood, and Harlow is now a huge part of the community here,” said City Council President Jennifer Giattino. “We’re thrilled to see years of work by Advance Realty and by the city, county, and state come to fruition.”
The seven floor Harlow has 140 units of one, two, and three bedroom apartments, 10 of which have already been occupied.
According to Dawn Nassaney, sales manager for The Marketing Directors, one bedroom apartments start at $3,140 and three bedrooms at about $5,395.
This does not include the annual amenities fee of $600 or parking, which is an additional $290 per month.
Daniel Cocoziello of Advanced Realty said he already moved in with his wife, and they love Hoboken.
Giattino said it was nice to see Cocoziello move in, as it shows Advanced Realty wants to be part of the community.
The building has several features including a second-floor courtyard garden with a pool, a kids’ room, a gym, several lounges, and two terraces on the seventh floor featuring fire pits on both the west and east sides of the building.
The Harlow also has a 24-hour concierge, barbeques, a resident lounge with WiFi, flat screen TVs, pool table and seating areas; business centers; a package room for deliveries, and bike storage.
The Harlow also has about 360 parking spaces and a free shuttle for residents during commuter hours to and from the PATH station.

Many Hoboken residents have long awaited the construction of the Harlow, as Trader Joe’s is scheduled to occupy its ground floor starting in February.
Cocoziello said the addition of Trader Joes offers residents both in the building and in the area additional convenience since “they can just head down stairs to grab groceries.”
