Matos, Rasslan and Asouti lead Bears to victory

After being nosed out at the wire by the Colts in game one, the Jets hoped to rebound as they took on the (0-5) Bears in their week 5 JCC of Bayonne Jr Division Indoor Flag Football night cap. Going toe to toe, the Jets and Bears traded scores throughout the first half as they brawled to 30-24 halftime score with the Jets holding a slim six points advantage. Highlighting the offensive fireworks for the Jets were Christian Benson (2TDs), Jack Kruckowski, (1 TD, 6 expts), and Anthony Baez (1TD) while Mariam Rasslan, (3 TDs) David Matos (4 expts), and a defensive safety fueled the Bears. Coming out of the gate for the second half, the Bears built a 40-30 advantage as David Matos and Louai Asouti notched TDs while Matos and Mariam Rasslan also added 2 point grabs. Facing a ten point deficit, the Jets’ Anthony Baez turned a toss sweep into a long distance TD sprint as the Jets narrowed the Bears’ lead to 40 – 36. Show casing their speedster, the Bears returned the favor as David Matos went coast to coast to put the Bears back up by ten points at 46 – 36. Known for his late game heroics, Aviv Talmor got his Jets’ squad closer with his goal to goal TD dash and after a Kruchkowski two points catch the Jets found themselves only down by two points at 46-44, Bears. On the cusp of their first victory of the season, the Bears found paydirt once more on a TD toss to Matos and a two point dart to Rasslan to gain a 54-44 lead. Working quickly, the Jets soared up court to make it 54-52 with a Kruchkowski TD and a Talmor two point play. Needing a first down to clinch their first victory of the season, the Bears turned to Amir Asouti who used his blazing speed to sprint up court for the much needed first down sealing the Bears’ 54-52 win.
