Cifuentes, Radil in scoring duel as Chargers prevail

Meeting in what most likely will be a preview of the JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Indoor Flag Football “Championship” round, the (7-0) Chargers once again locked horns with the (3-3) Bengals. Relying heavily on speedster Alejandro Cifuentes, the Chargers built a 16-0 advantage as Cifuentes notched 2 TDs and 4 expts. Needing some senior leadership, the Bengals’ Drew Radil reeled in a TD toss from QB Chris Ballance making it 16-6, Chargers. With Alejandro Cifuentes continuing to seem unstoppable, the Chargers’ lead grew to 22-6 on another Cifuentes’ long distance TD grab. Finding his comfort zone, Chris Ballance kept launching darts to Drew Radil as a TD and 2 point play made it 22-14, Chargers. As the Bengals drew to within striking range, the Chargers’ Kyle Arano gave his squad a little breathing room as QB Chris Caballero unleashed a 15 yard TD pass to Arano to stretch the Chargers’ lead to 28-14. Staying in the hunt, the Bengals opened the second half with another TD toss to Radil followed by a leaping 2 point snare by Jack Kruchkowski to narrow the Chargers’ lead to 6 points at 28-22. Looking to catch the Bengals’ defense napping, the Chargers turned to their running game as Alejandro Cifuentes rumbled coast to coast for a TD with a two point flip to Aaliyana Cifuentes making it 36-22. Setup by two long sprints by Anthony Baez, the Bengals quickly got close again as a TD toss to Drew Radil once again made it a duel at 36-28, Chargers. Highlighting the final minutes, the Chargers Anthony Fraser came up with two key defensive stops to put his offense back in action as Aaliyana Cifuentes cashed in on a long dash to seal the Chargers hard fought 42-28 win.
