JERSEY CITY — Mayor Steven Fulop announced The appointment of Jersey City resident and waste management professional Patrick Stamato to the appointment of Department of Public Works director. Stamato, who has more than four decades of management experience in the solid waste, recycling, and snow removal industry, replaces longtime city employee Mark Redfield who retired earlier this fall after more than 30 years of service.
Stamato has worked both in the public and private sector and has overseen solid waste contracts, implemented waste management and recycling programs that increased savings, efficiency and improved environmental impact, as well as handling labor and contract negotiations and personnel management.
In his most recent position with the Hudson County Improvement Authority, Stamato was also involved in parks projects such as the Lincoln Park Golf Course in Jersey City and the Laurel Hill Promenade in Secaucus.
Mayor’s aide and Chair of the Mayor’s Quality of Life Task Force, Douglas Carlucci, will be appointed to oversee the Division of Buildings and Streets in preparation of retirements in that office. Carlucci, who has worked on numerous quality of life initiatives, has been the Mayor’s Office liaison with the Department of Public Works and has worked closely in designing and implementing the snow removal operations, on traffic and engineering projects, and street maintenance initiatives.
Additionally, the Fulop administration will be hiring the City’s first arborist and dedicating a full-time position within the Department of Public Works to that role for the expansion of the city tree planting program.
