SUBSTITUTIONS

QUESTION: In high school volleyball, one minute prior to the start of set two in a match, an injury occurs to Casias, a starter on the receiving squad. Coach subs in Zegarowitz for Casais. Is this considered a substitution in the scorebook?

ANSWER: In this case no entry is recorded in the scorebook due to injury (Rule 10, Sec. 1, Art. 4).

QUESTION: Is there a limit of substitutions allowed per team in a set? (unlimited, 18 or 21).

ANSWER: A squad is permitted no more than 18 entries per set; starting a set does not count as a substitution. Each player is allowed unlimited entries within the squad limit. (Rule 10, Sec. 3, Art. 2).
