NORTH BERGEN BRIEFS

Backup dancer for Beyonce and Rihanna, who lives in North Bergen, located

North Bergen Police said late on Tuesday that resident Shirlene Quigley, 32, who had been missing since the morning of Sunday, Oct. 23, has been located at a medical facility after a three-day search.
Before that, Quigley had last been seen at New York City’s Port Authority Bus Terminal, and her cell phone was found at a bridal shop in Chelsea.
As a professional dancer, she teaches a dance class in Manhattan, and has performed in music videos like “Crazy in Love” with Beyonce. Quigley has also appeared on the Grammys, Saturday Night Live, and more. Quigley is originally from Los Angeles. Her friends and family started an online campaign to look for her.
The police website said that she had been located at a facility, but did not give more information.

Hudson participates in prescription drug take-back day

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day that took place recently, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, provided citizens with a safe, convenient, and responsible means for disposing prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse.
The Hudson County Coalition for a Drug-Free Community (HCCDFC) focuses on reducing youth substance use in Hudson County. Yaisa Coronado, program director for the Coalition said, “Prescription drug take back days are an easy, yet important way to improve the quality of life in our communities. By safely disposing of unused and expired prescription medications, there is less availability and access for potential misuse and abuse.”
Collection sites were set up in Secaucus, West New York, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department offices, North Bergen, and Union City.
Additional temporary collection sites were set up across Hudson County, in many police stations, neighborhood pharmacies, schools and senior citizen centers.
In 2014 the Hudson County Coalition conducted a school survey and middle and high school students self-reported that 15.5 percent of Rx users got their drugs from “my home without permission.” 61 percent of the students surveyed thought it was “not likely at all” or “somewhat not likely” to be caught by police if they took some prescription drugs not prescribed to them.
The Hudson County Coalition encourages residents to take inventory of their prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Some helpful tips are to take your medicine(s) exactly as prescribed, do not share prescriptions; secure medicines in a locked chest, this will help curtail theft from those who might abuse or sell the medicine; and talk to your children about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.
The Coalition appreciates and wants to thank all of the Hudson County municipalities that participated in the Take-Back Day. Second Town-Stat meeting focuses on public safety and quality of life

The township hosted its second Town-Stat meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the North Bergen Police Department’s Crime Prevention and Intelligence Center (CPIC), located at police headquarters.
The Town-Stat concept has been adopted by the township as part of a larger policing strategy that reinforces local partnerships and allows all municipal departments to participate in the common goal of increasing public safety, and in turn, the quality of life for the residents of North Bergen. Town-Stat meetings bring all municipal departments together to share their roles and discuss issues of concern. Facilitating collaboration between all of our municipal resources greatly enhances the police department’s ability to address crime and disorder before it becomes a public safety issue.
Attending the meeting were representatives from the Health Department, DPW, Parking Authority, Building Department, and more. Discussions ran the gamut of issues involving resident safety and quality-of-life issues throughout the township.
