HOBOKEN — Federal authorities investigating last Thursday’s fatal train crash in the Erie Lackawanna Train Terminal in Hoboken said Thursday that a data recorder salvaged from the trash indicated that the train’s speed began increasing from 8 miles per hour to 21 miles per hour starting 38 seconds before slamming into the end of the rail line in Hoboken. The train’s emergency brake was applied only during the last second, a press release from the National Transportation Safety Board said.
