Thank you for a successful backpack drive

To the Editor:

I wish to express my sincere thanks to all members of the community for their generosity in supporting the HIGHWAYS annual backpack drive. Because of their support, we were able to provide more than 100 Bayonne students with backpacks filled with school supplies as they began the new school year.

Our special thanks go to Bayonne Community Bank. As in previous years, BCB provided collection points in all of its branches, making it easier for members of the community to drop off their donations. The bank also made a generous cash contribution to the drive.

I also thank the members of the Rho Kappa Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority here in Hudson County; the Mommy Advice group; and the Islamic Circle of North America. All of these groups organized their own drives and collected supplies for our program. Thanks also to our good friend, Father Paul Guyla of Jersey City, who annually involves a score of family, friends, and neighbors in filling backpacks and donating them to our drive.

The backpack drive has become an important part of HIGHWAYS’s social services programs. Our thanks to all who help us serve the community in this way.
