UPDATE: Young Hoboken mom, 34, killed on train platform, officials say

HOBOKEN – A Hoboken resident, Fabiola Bittar De Kroon, a young mother, was named Thursday as the woman who died after being hit by debris during a train accident in the Erie Lackawanna Train Terminal Thursday morning. De Kroon had dropped her 18-month-old daughter at day care that morning and headed to the train to go to work in New York City. Her husband was out of town, but rushed back upon hearing of the accident and was able to pick up their daughter from day care.
De Kroon, a native of Brazil, was the lone fatality in the crash, officials said at a 2 p.m. press conference on the waterfront attended by Gov. Chris Christie and Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
Two people were critically injured and over 100 people were injured in the accident.
Officials would not give further details about what might have caused the unusual crash, in which a train slammed into the terminus of the rail line and tore through the concrete platform.
The train’s engineer is reportedly recovering at Jersey City Medical Center.
The PATH trains were running again by rush hour, but only coming into the station, not exiting.
