UPDATE: Hoboken train crash; 1 dead, 108 hurt, press conference at 2 p.m.

HOBOKEN — A NJ Transit train running on the Pascack Valley line slammed into the terminus of a Hoboken train station track during the Thursday morning commute and ripped through the platform, causing serious damage to the terminal facilities and forcing suspension of service in and out of Hoboken on the PATH and NJ Transit trains. Officials said later that a Hoboken woman was killed on the platform by falling debris, two people were critically injured, and 100 more were injured. The train conductor was hospitalized in Jersey City Medical Center.
Officials would not release more details Thursday afternoon, but watch hudsonreporter.com for updates.
A triage center was established outside the Target store near the Newport Mall in Jersey City.
Ambulances streamed into the crash site from areas as far away as Union and Essex County and the injured were being transported to all available nearby hospitals.
The commuter train was heading into Hoboken from the suburbs of Bergen County in New Jersey and Rockland County, NY, according to preliminary reports. Passengers heading to work in New York City often take the train to Hoboken, where they can switch to a PATH train into New York.
Hoboken residents received this bulletin: “Hoboken Terminal is closed due to a train crash. Rail and PATH is not in operation. PATH is operating from Newport. The waterfront walkway is closed. Use Marin Blvd to reach Jersey City. NJ Transit buses are temporarily picking up and dropping off at Washington St & Observer Highway.”
Hoboken passengers hoping to head into Manhattan can use their passes on the ferries this morning.
This is second crash of NJ Transit equipment this week. On Monday two NJ Transit buses collided in the Lincoln Tunnel, injuring approximately 40 people, when one driver allegedly made an illegal lane change in the path of another bus that smashed into the rear end of the first.
