Police and community meet

The North Bergen Police Department has held four informal meetings with community members throughout the township this month. A healthy turnout of North Bergen residents showed up to discuss their concerns in person with members of the police department.
A wide variety of issues was raised, from traffic to crime.
The initiative, known as NB T.A.P.S. (North Bergen Township Alternative Policing Strategy), was initiated earlier this year by Chief of Police Robert Dowd in order to enhance police-community relations.
Residents get to meet the officers who patrol their neighborhoods, and the officers learn about any matters of concern directly from the residents.
This was the second series of T.A.P.S. meetings in North Bergen, with officers discussing the steps they had taken to alleviate problems raised by locals at the prior meetings.
Residents were quick to praise the officers’ efforts and note improvements in quality of life issues throughout the area as a result.
