Hoboken native debuts award-winning film at the Golden Door Festival

HOBOKEN — Hoboken native Joseph Cantatore, with a long line of Hoboken family roots and currently pursuing his MBA in Media Production at NJCU, has won a prestigious award for his student film from The Accolade Global Film Competition. The award was given for Joseph’s short documentary student film entry: “Looking for New Hope~Joe and his life with FA.” Despite his daily struggles with a very rare genetic disorder called Friedreich’s Ataxia, Joe is determined to pursue his career in film and his hard work has paid off.
The Accolade recognizes film, television, videography, and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change. Entries are judged by highly qualified professionals in the film and television industry.
In winning an Accolade, Joseph Cantatore joins the ranks of other high-profile winners of this internationally respected award. Rick Prickett, who chairs The Accolade Global Film Competition, said, “The Accolade is not an easy award to win. Entries are received from around the world from powerhouse companies to remarkable new talent. The Accolade helps set the standard for craft and creativity. The goal of The Accolade is to help winners achieve the recognition they deserve.”
Joseph’s film has also been chosen to debut at this month’s Golden Door International Film Festival in Jersey City, September 22 through the 25. The Golden Door Film Festival is a four- day festival in Jersey City, celebrating the talent of independent filmmakers. It was founded in 2010 by actor Bill Sorvino and a small group of Jersey Cityites, who set out on a mission to shine a light on Jersey City and to provide an equal platform to all filmmakers well known and otherwise. Since that time, Golden Door International Film Festival has been a cultural focal point of Jersey City. Films are screened throughout the city and are judged for excellence culminating in an awards ceremony on closing night. It is a not-for-profit film festival in Jersey City created to share the talents of local artists and artists from around the world.
