T-E-A-C-H-E-R

To the Editor:

Did I miss something? On August 31, this newspaper had a front page article on the opening of school. Words like Drones, chrome books, Labs, Styrofoam, conditioning, and of course technology appeared. The one word missing was T-E-A-C-H-E-R!
In contrast, on September 4, in a church bulletin was a note related to All Saints Catholic Academy. Achievements appeared with a specific comment… a direct result of direct and dedicated teaching by teachers!
For another year, Bayonne teachers lack a fair contract. This is despite: 100 percent of eligible seniors graduated, impressive acceptances to Ivy League universities, an extensive curriculum to meet the needs of all students, a safe/secure environment, and a well qualified professional faculty.
I must interject here that it was definitely wonderful news about an elevator for handicapped students. I sincerely hope that just as the classrooms for gifted and talented students in the West Building were renovated the same remodeling will take place for those with special needs.
Finally, in the newspaper article, an adage-“find a job you love”- appeared. To the Board of Education I would add “to talk the talk, you have to walk the walk.”
