JERSEY CITY – A very full menu of programs and events is planned for September at the Jersey City Free Public Library.
The library’s 8th annual book festival, “Tales of Our Cities 2016,” gets underway Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine at Van Vorst Park in Downtown Jersey City. Readings will be delivered by 26 authors, and the day will include activities for children and food trucks.

Jersey City Library Literacy Program, 1st floor, 472 Jersey Ave., (201) 547-4518, for age 16 and up: Classes in Basic Literacy and Citizenship for ESL Conversational English speakers. The Literacy Program provides one-on-one basic reading instruction for Hudson County residents 18 years and older. Volunteer tutors work with students ranging from non-readers through the eighth grade level. The program also offers citizenship, English as a Second Language, math, public speaking, and writing classes, and TASC high school diploma test preparation classes. Intermediate and advanced. ID, income verification and address proof required.
