A celebration of independence

Local kids come out to perform in front of City Hall

In honor of India’s 69th Independence Day, local kids danced and sang in front of Jersey City City Hall on Aug. 15.

The event was organized by NewportMommy.com and Surati for Performing Arts with support from the mayor’s office.

Young children dressed in traditional colored garments put on a show for family, friends, and public officials.

An annual event since 2012, the event was hosted by NewportMommy for the last several years in partnership with Surati, a nonprofit dedicated to education in the performing arts. Previously held in the Newport section of the city, the event was held in front of City Hall for the second time this year.

NewportMommy was founded in June of 2010 and is a resource for parents to learn about schools, doctors, nannies and advice for families.

Special guests included Mayor Steven Fulop and Assemblyman Raj Mukherji.
