JERSEY CITY – “When Steven met Jaclyn” has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
This weekend, Jersey City Mayor and future New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Steven Fulop was to put a ring on the finger of his fiancée, Jaclyn Thompson, who owns a physical therapy practice in Jersey City. They’re going to get married in New Hope, Pa.
The way the young mayor met his wife-to-be is a bit old-fashioned.
When he was a mayoral candidate in 2013, the local physical therapy practice hosted a meet-and-greet with him. Thompson was there but barely talked to him. She had never met him before.
Fulop apparently took notice of her. He went back to the practice a week later and left her a note asking her to have dinner with him. And so they did.
Fulop, who left a job at Goldman Sachs to serve in Iraq after 9/11, is 38 years old. Thompson, 34, is a founder and director of rehabilitative services at Exchange Place Therapy Group. Like Fulop, she has a master’s degree.
She said that even if he wins the governorship, she’d like to keep living in Jersey City.
