A funny thing happened during week five and six of the JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division floor hockey season, the once winless Penguins have become the “Beast” as they have begun to dominate the ranks. With one last regular season bout remaining, the now (2-4-1) Penguins faced the first place (4-2-1) Devils in a tune-up game before both squads entered the “Championship Tournament”. Leaving no doubt from the opening whistle until the final buzzer, the Penguins ruled the court by taking a 5-0 lead within the first ten minutes. Setting the pace for the Pens’ Logan Mazziota pumped in a “Hat Trick” while Megan Feeley and Harsh Easwar each notched goals. The wheel spinning continued on the offensive side for the Devils as a herculean effort by Alejandro Cifuentes, Alex Riboldi, Zachary Ciesmelewski, and Tristan Wolenski couldn’t turn the tide. Dueling for every possession, the Devils were held in check by the flawless goal tending of Matt Doyle and the Penguins’ defensive brawlers. Hitting their stride once again, the Penguins rocked the Devils net four more times as Feeley and Easwar torched in two goals apiece with Nicholas DePinto racking up all four assists. Down 9-0, the Devils never quit with Mariam and Khaled Rasslan stepping in to finally end the Penguins barrage but the damage was done as the Penguins captured a 9-0 victory.
