Mickiewicz, Ciemelewski keep Devils red hot

Its only week two for the JCC of Bayonne’s floor hockey Sr. Division but the (1-0) Devils had a great opportunity to break from the pack as they faced the (0-0-1) Penguins. Grabbing a 2-0 advantage on two, Marek Mickiewicz “highlight reel” goals off assists by Tristan Wolenski and Alejandro Cifuentes the Devils seemed in control. The bliss was short lived as the Penguins made it a 2-1 bout as Logan Mazziota railed in a scoring dart with Harsh Easwar on the assist. For the next twenty minutes, both squads brawled defensively with the Devils’ Zachary Ciemelewski and the Pens’ Matt Doyle dominating the action at net. Looking to end the scoring drought, the Devils’ Marek Mickiewicz worked his faceoff magic and flipped in an unassisted goal to make it 3-1, Devils. After drawing a penalty, the Penguins opened some eyes as Megan Feeley notched a shorthanded goal cutting the Devils’ lead to 3-2. As the clock became a factor, the Penguins loaded up on offense with Emya Irwin blasting full court shots to her team mates. Spotting the Pens’ depleted defensive ranks, the Devils capitalized as Cifuentes battled a pass up court to Mickiewicz who sealed the deal with his fourth goal and a 4-2 final. A special mention must be given to the Devils’ Alex Riboldi for his huge impact on defense.
