The icon of kindness

Dear Editor:
This writer had the honor and pleasure to attend the recent retirement gala conducted on behalf of William “Bill” Gaughan and what a party it was! Bill retired as Chief of Staff to the County Executive and has the distinct honor of being the longest serving Councilmember in the City of Jersey City. The event was attended by many, many people who sincerely were present to honor Bill.
More importantly than the above titles and many honors over the years bestowed upon Bill is the myriad of acts of human kindness that he has displayed and continues to display to his fellow human beings. Bill can most certainly be addressed as the “Icon of Kindness” due to the years of caring, compassionate, humanitarian and unselfish endeavors.
It was evident from the remarks of those in attendance at the party that Bill will be continually called upon to serve his county and city for many years to come. And all of us are much better people for having crossed paths with William A. Gaughan. There is an adage “one hundred years from now a person will not be judged by the kind of car they drove, the house they lived in or their assets but by the mark that a person leaves upon their fellow human beings” and Bill Gaughan has and continues to leave his esteem influence on many.

Respectfully,
Robert B. Knapp
