HOBOKEN — Everyone wants to be in Hudson County, particularly where residents can walk to a bevy of restaurants, waterfront parks, and schools, not to mention five kinds of public transportation. Home values are on the rise, and this month, a historic house sold for a reported $6.5 million, an amount that may be the highest in the city’s history for a townhouse.
The six-bedroom house at Fifth and Hudson streets, built in 1854 (before the Civil War) and rehabbed since then, sold last month in only nine days, said an article on NJ.com. Halstead Properties has the listing.
The limestone townhouse has a two-car garage, a rarity in this parking-strapped city. It also has a private courtyard.
The house has a mahogany staircase and 1,200-bottle wine cellar in the basement, and — get this — an elevator.
It was listed at a higher amount than the second most expensive listing in Hoboken, New York Giant Eli Manning’s condo on the waterfront.
Hudson Street boasts many historic properties and is located two blocks from the waterfront.
