HAZEWSKI, REV. EUGENE J.

passed away on May 3, 2016, in Toms River, NJ. Born on May 21, 1933 in Bayonne to the late Wanda (nee: Hascilo) and John Hazewski, Rev. Hazewski was a graduate of St. John Kanty Prep, Erie, PA, and Seton Hall University. He then attended Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, where he earned a Master of Divinity Degree. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in the Archdiocese of Newark on May 23, 1959, by the Most Reverend Thomas A. Boland. Rev. Hazewski was assigned as a Parochial Vicar to St. Stanislaus Parish, Newark and Holy Trinity Parish, Hackensack. He was appointed Pastor of the Church of St. Henry, Bayonne, in 1979, St. Margaret of Corona Parish, Little Ferry, in 1987, and Assumption Parish, Emerson, 1995. Rev. Hazewski was later designated Pastor Emeritus of Assumption Parish. He also served as the Dean of the Bergen Region, Deaneries One and Four, and the Bergen Northeast Region. He was a member of the Priest Personnel Policy Board for the Archdiocese of Newark from 1999 until 2003 and was a Past Chairmen of the Pastoral Care Council at Hackensack University Medical Center. He also provided pastoral care to several nursing facilities in the Toms River area. Rev. Hazewski is survived by his siblings, John Haze, and his wife Mary Ann, and Christine Kelly; his nieces, Jennifer Meade and Christine Kelly; his nephews, Jonathan Haze and Thomas Kelly; his grandnieces and grandnephews, Briley and Kinley Haze, Sophia and Grace Meade, and Jessica, Joseph, Kelly and Mark Kelly. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Thomas Kelly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University.
