A fracking letter to the editor

Dear Editor:
On May 14, lots of area residents will board buses in Teaneck and Wayne, NJ to attend a historic global climate action – BreakFree Albany, 2016! In the Northeast, we’ll descend on Albany, New York, the biggest fossil fuel hub in the region. Bakken crude oil, fracked in North Dakota, is transferred in Albany into pipelines and barges, or it continues on by rail through New York State to our communities in Bergen County, then on to refineries in Linden and Philadelphia. These trains, which we call “bomb trains,” endanger our lives and the environment. In Albany, we’ll stand together to say no to fracking and fossil fuels because they pollute our air and water and warm our planet, and put our lives at risk… and say yes to renewable energy. There will be other demonstrations all over the world.
Buses, co-sponsored by the Coalition, 350NJ and many other area groups, will leave at 7:45 and will return by 9:00 pm. Many of us have demonstrated locally to stop the oil trains. This is our opportunity to join with people around the world. You can find out more and sign up for bus tickets on Facebook at 350NJ or njbusesbreakfree.eventbrite.com. This is our moment! Why not bring family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors?

Break Free,
Paula Rogovin,
Coalition to Ban Unsafe Oil Trains
