17-year-old charged with aggravated assault after alleged struggle with police near pharmacy

HOBOKEN – The Hoboken Police Department is currently following leads to find one of two men who allegedly attempted to use fraudulent credit cards to purchase gift cards at a Hoboken pharmacy Friday, April 8, a press release from the Hoboken Police Department said.
“Officers [Michael Straten, Joseph Cahill and Dennis Figueroa Jr.] were dispatched to CVS on 811 Clinton St. [at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday] on a report of two males possibly using fraudulent credit cards to purchase gift cards,” the press release sent by Sgt. Edgardo Cruz said.
At the scene, according to the press release, one of the two men – a 17-year-old juvenile from Brooklyn whose name was was not disclosed – was “uncooperative and combative from the start forcing officers to struggle with him.”
During said struggle, Cruz said in the release, the two alleged assailants attempted to flee the scene.
“The juvenile was caught a short distance away while the other [remains] at large,” the press release says. The officers sustained minor injuries.
The juvenile was later found to be in possession of multiple fraudulent credit cards and a fraudulent I.D., police officials said. He was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstructing arrest, credit card theft, identify theft, possession of false government documents and fraudulent use of credit cards. He was remanded to the Youth Detention Center. – Steven Rodas
