Sonics storm into first place

One win away from clinching the top spot in the 2016 JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division indoor soccer “Championship Tournament”, the once third place Sonics (3-3-1) faced the (3-4) Comets. Trading goals in the early going Harsh Easwar (Sonics) and Dylan Subacz (Comets) got the scoring underway as the Sonics’ Jacob Kowal and the Comets’ Aaliyana Cifuentes tallied assists. Locked in a defensive standoff for most of the contest, Joyce Gabrael and Jacob Kowal held the fort for the Sonics while Aaliyana Cifuentes, Mariam Rasslan, and Alejandro Cifuentes brick-walled the Sonics’ attack for the Comets. As both teams foraged for points, the Comets’ Thomas Arias took the offensive reins but inspite of his shooting siege the Sonics’ defense stayed rock solid. As their defense impressed, the Sonics’ offense caught fire as Kyle O’Hara, and Jacob Kowal netted two quick goals off assists by Emya Irwin and O’Hara. Leading 3- 1, the Sonics once again endured a barrage of shots by Arias and Subacz but the net stayed quiet as the Sonics prevailed for a 3-1 victory and the top seed in the “Championship Tournament.”

Additionally, the following were recognized for the Sr. Division Week 6:
Offensive Player of the Week: Dylan Subacz – Comets
Defensive Player of the Week: Aaliyana Cifuentes- Comets
Teamwork/Leadership Player of the Week: Alejandro Cifuentes- Comets
